Elephant Hill to Mount Kinangop and back

Hiking from Elephant Hill to Mount Kinangop and back is a challenging and rewarding adventure in the Aberdare Range of Kenya. This hike will take you through diverse landscapes, from bamboo forests to alpine moorlands, and offers panoramic views of the Great Rift Valley and the surrounding mountains.

Key Sections of the Hike:

  1. Elephant Hill Ascent:
    • The hike starts through a bamboo forest before transitioning into heath and moorland. The ascent is steep but manageable, with a gradual climb to the top of Elephant Hill.
    • Time to Elephant Hill: 3-4 hours
  2. Elephant Hill to Point of Descent:
    • After reaching the summit of Elephant Hill, you will proceed towards the saddle between Elephant Hill and Mount Kinangop. This section is characterized by undulating terrain, which can be tricky in bad weather.
    • Time: 1-2 hours
  3. Mount Kinangop Ascent:
    • The final push to the summit of Mount Kinangop is a steep climb over rocky terrain. The summit rewards you with stunning views if the weather is clear.

    • You will retrace your steps back to Elephant Hill and then descend to the starting point.
